Now that we can play video files from our PC (as long as they are less than 2GB and 3.6 MB/s!) icon_smile.gif it seems to me that there is now a need for some kind of rudimentary video player control beyond <PAUSE> and <EXIT>. I personally don't want anything more than that available on any basic VCR or DVD player ie <PLAY> <PAUSE> <FWD> <REV> <STOP> and perhaps <Remember Where I Am So That The Next Time I Play This File I Can Start In The Same Place>. All these controls are just file commands, so can't be that hard to code - or are they??

Cheers, 7&Y

Ignoring that it might be more difficult to control the video stream on an iPlayer with a separate MPEG HW decoder than a PC with a SW decoder.

You would expect the Neuf (or N9UF) ADSL TV box has some sort of stream control.

DVD Remote Control
Play, Pause, Stop, Prev. track, Next track, Search back, Search forward, Open/Close (eject),
Jog, Jog Wheel clockwise/anticlockwise,
Audio, Angle, Subtitle, Shuffle, Program, Repeat,
Book Mark, Picture memory,
TV/DVD, Display, On/Off, Set Up,
Title menu, DVD Menu, Return,
Up, Down, Left, Right, Enter,
1-9, 0, Clear, Enter track, Input name, Time/Text,
TV Vol+/-, TV Prog+/-, TV Wide Mode, TV AV in, and Amp Vol+/-.

iPlayer Remote Control
1-9, 0, C, list, red, green, yellow, blue, V+/-, P+/-, up, down, left, right, OK, back |<<, forward >>|, text, info, mute, PiP, menu, power.

This is just a suggestion and hopefully not seem too fier.
Although best avoided, with so few buttons, they are likely to have dual purpose; depending on mode, hence we have modes. Modes indicated by () bracket pairs.
Comand - Button - Description
Exit media playback mode - (info) red, but remember place in stream
Play - right
Pause - left
Stop - (info) red
Rewind - back |<<
Prev. track - back |<<
Next track - next >>|
Prev. playlist/folder - P-
Next. playlist/folder - P+
Search back - left
Search forward - right
Skip back 10 seconds - up
Skip 10 seconds - down
Display time, track, title, etc. overlay - info - enter info mode
Audio stream select (language) - (info) green
Angle select - (info) blue
Subtitle stream or language - (info) yellow
Shuffle or Random track mode -
Program or Track/Playlist/Folder enable/disable -

...it's a lot more complicated than I first thought.

I guess that's all folks, bye.

ahh, well, I did say just basic controls...

...and surely the icon_iplayer.gif feeds whatever part of a data stream it likes to the decoder? I don't imagine the decoder takes the raw data stream and displays it by by itself icon_biggrin.gif

If it did then I don't think we'd have the bitrate ceiling we have. It's the inability of the processor to feed data to the decoder fast enough that gives us that problem now.

At the end of the day its a freeview box.. Not an Xbox media centre.... The hardware is old, the firmware is buggy..

Dont expect too much from this box..

What happened to 1-6Andy.. Are they registered on this forum ?
